NEW DELHI: The Government admitted in Parliament, a serious lapse in security at the Indira Gandhi International airport, leading to the hijacking of the Srinagar bound Indian Airlines aircraft on April 24.

Making a statement in both Houses of Parliament, the Minister of State for Home (Internal Security) Rajesh Pilot told members that the Government had instituted an inquiry in the Cabinet Secretariat.

The Minister told the members that the identity of the hijacker had not yet been established. He said the security had been beefed up at the airport.

Pilot admitting a security lapse at the Delhi airport said that the sub inspector who had done the frisking and the Inspector in charge, had been suspended,

A strong demand was voiced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday for the dismissal of the Minister of State for Internal Security, Rajesh Pilot for making what they called, “irresponsible, childish and half-baked Statements” on sensitive issues like Kashmir.
