NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Secretariat has cleared the appointment of Montek Singh Ahluwalia as the new finance secretary.

Ahluwalia, at present the economic affairs secretary in the finance ministry, will succeed K.P.Geethakrishnan, who has moved to Washington to represent India on the board of the International Monetary Fund as its executive director,

In his new capacity as finance secretary, Ahluwalia will continue 10 look after the economic affairs department.

Geethakrishnan as finance secretary used to look after the revenue department.

This means that the government has to look for a new revenue secretary.

J.P.Singh, secretary in the animal husbandry department, and Tejinder Khanna, secretary in the food ministry, are the two officers being considered for the post of the revenue secretary.
