BELJING(PTI): Premier Li Peng on March 13 met ambassador C.Dasgupta and thanked India for its support in defeating a western draft resolution censuring China in the United Nations human rights commission, an embassy spokesman said.
Premier Li received Dasgupta along with other recently arrived ambassadors.
However, his reference to India’s support in the rights vote failed to figure in official Xinhua News Agency report of the meeting.
Xinhua prominently reported Li’s expression of gratitude earlier to visiting Pakistani army chief of staff general Abdul Waheed for Islamabad’s backing in the U.N. human rights commission.
The Chinese agency, noted for strong anti-India bias, had in ear jier dispatches repeatedly mentioned the support China received from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, sudan and other countries in defeating the western draft.
The explosion in Bombay Friday in which more than people were killed and more than 1000 injured, did not figure in the remarks between prmier Li and ambassador Dasgupta, a spokesman said.
