NEW DELHI: Within a few days of the bombing attack in Bombay there was an attack on another major city, this time Calcutta. The blast which has already claimed at least 60 lives and injured about 100 people occurred around mid-night in the crowded Bow bazaar district of Calcutta.

The bomb wrecked two buildings in this congested area. Policemen were still searching for victims in the debri at 12:15 am on March 17.

A security blanket has been clamped in the metropolis as police tries hard to track down the brains behind the explosions. The volatile city is still reeling under the impact of blasts considered to be the most powerful this city has experienced, The vibrations from the terrible explosion and the shocks waves generated by it could be felt for many miles.

Vital installations have been placed under special guard all over the city and important buildings cordoned. The city looked in a state of panic as people wonder whether more blasts will follow like in Bombay.

In the meanwhile the State Department of United States has warmed its citizens not to visit India temporarily due to the general atmosphere of insecurity in the country.
