NEW DELHI (PTI): The “Prithvi” and ‘Trishul’ missile systems are expected to be in ducted into the armed forces during 199394 in view of excellent repeated performance data obtained, the defence minister, Sharad Pawar informed the Lok Sabha March 5.
Development work of “Akash’ and “Nag” was expected to be completed by 1995 after which both the missiles were likely to enter service use, the minister informed Snbballav Panigrahtin a written reply.
Pawar said development of the four missile systems was in progress under the integrated guided missile development program.
Prithvi is a surface to surface missile of 150 km range which can be extended to 250 kms for certain types of warhead.
Trishul is a short range surface to air missile having a nine km range while Akash is a medium range surface to air missile with a 25 kms range. A third genera ton antitank missile, Nag has a range of four kms.
The program also includes de development of *Agni’ which is a reentry technology demonstrator project.
