CHANDIGARH: Bhajan Lal, Haryana Chief Minister, denied March 5 that the center had accepted the Punjab Chief Minister’s Plea to have a fresh look at the river waters agreements between Punjab and Haryana.
The question was raised by Varinder Singh of the Janata Dal during zero hour in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, He said according to newspaper reports Beant Singh, Punjab Chief Minister, had written a letter to the Center, urging it lo. Review the river waters agreements and that he had received a reply from the Center to this.
He said the Eradi Tribunal’s decision was considered to be the final and the new development had added a new dimension to the entire issue. The member wanted to know whether the Union Government could open up the issue without consulting the Haryana Government.
Bhajan Lal said he also felt concerned after going through newspaper reports. He talked to V.C.Shukla, Union Minister for Water Resources, and Friday over this. Shukla told him that he had neither received any letter from the Punjab Chief Minister nor had he written any letter to him in reply. The Chief Minister said Shukla had told him that there was no question of reopening the issue.
