NEW DELHI, India: The Supreme Court of India upheld the order of the Regional Passport Officer, Delhi, impounding the passport of Mrs, Charanjit Kaur, wife of Dr. Jagjit Singh Chohan, leader of Khalistan government in view of the activists which could be detrimental to the security of India. Along the special leave petition moved by the Union Government challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court judgment, a Division Bench comprising Justice O. Chennapa Reddy and Justice V. Khalid held that authorities were justified in suspecting her of being an emissary or a contact person between Dr. Chohan and Sikh militants in India.

Charanjit Kaur is a resident of Hoshiarpur district who had come to India from U.K. in October, 1983 to visit her ailing mother. Her passport was impounded as she tried to leave the country in Aug. 1984.
