Guru Gobind Singh was born December 22,1666 to Guru Teg Bahadur and Mata Gujn Jee at Patna Sahib (Bihar). He assumed Guruship at the age of nine. He created Khalsa Holy order at the age of 33. He was a poet of distinction, a patron of learning, and spiritual leader of eminence, great warrior with magnetic personality and a unique national leader. Son of a supreme sacrifice and father of a score of sacrifices: Sons and countless Sikhs.
In reply to the letter and verbal message of Aurangjeb, Guru sent a historic reply through Bhai Daya Singh and Dharam Singh. On receipt of Zafarnama, he became a disconsolate, frustrated man and utterly disillusioned with life and died in 1707. Before his death he removed all restrictions on Sikhs’ movements. Bahadur Shah, his son, further extended hands of goodwill, friendship and cooperation to Guru Gobind Singh. On his request, Guru agreed to accompany him to the south. In the meanwhile, Wazir Khan, the governor of Sirhind, did not relish the new developments between the king and Guru, sent a party of assassins to put an end to Guru’s life. So that he could not poison the king’s ears and embittered his relations with him.
When, one afternoon, the Guru was resting, the assassins attacked him unaware. In the encounter, Guru and his body guards put both of them lo death, but they succeeded in inflicting a deep wound in the Guru’s side with a dagger. The Gum was well on way to recovery, when one day tugged a bow and the wound opened up again which proved fatal, Oct.7,1708. Guru Gobind Singh thus ordered to his Sikhs:
As ordained by God, the Lord etemal, A new way Of life is evolved. All the Sikhs are asked to accept the Holy Granth as the Guru. Guru Granth should be accepted as the living God.
Those who wish to meet God Will find Him in the world.
