MEXICO CITY: A bus carrying 5 American and other foreign tourists lo Mayan ruins near the southeastern city of Cancun crashed on a rain-slicked road Jan.3 and several dozen passengers were reported killed.
U.S. consular officials said there were conflicting reports on the death toll which the Mexican news agency Noumox put al 24, with 23 injured.
The bus was carrying tourists from the United States, Canada, Japan, Portugal, Italy and France, to the ruins of Chiche Itza.
Notimex said, citing police and bus company spokesman.
Canadian Television News reported that the bus overturned and hit an electrical pole. It said a transformer fell on the bus, which caught fire and exploded.
