Before the infamous attack in 1984, by the Indian Army of Sikhism’s Holy places and most notably Akal Takht and, “Sri Darbar Sahib” Amritsar, Sikhs had no English language paper daily or weekly. For news of any kind relating to Punjab, they relied on Hindu owned and controlled media both in India and abroad. The attack and the subsequent events in Panjab, Delhi and elsewhere in India compelled Sikhs to start their own newspaper and World Sikh News was born in December 1984.

The paper, like any human organism, has gone through lots of growing pains. It has now come to be regarded as a Voice of the Sikhs all the world over on all issues affecting and concerning the Sikhs. Particularly, at this critical juncture where India’s Hindu government is spreading all kinds of misinformation about Sikhs and the Sikh’s War of Independence going on in Khalistan, it provides a strong, healthy and correct view about the events.

We are proud of the paper and not only the Community recognizes this, it also gratefully acknowledges its contribution in the social, cultural, educational, political and religious lives of Sikhs settled abroad.
