SANTA CLARA: The Panthak Committee (who is spearheading the movement for the liberation of Khalistan) in a statement which is signed by its members Dr.Sohan Singh, Bhai Daljit Singh, Bhai Satinderpal Singh, Bhai Shahbaz Singh has requested United Nations, United States govt, International Human Rights Organization and other International Democratic Institutions to send their observers to monitor the elections of approximately 13000 Punjab village councils (Panchayats) which are going to be held between Jan.1522.

Panthak Committee has expressed the fear that in absence of any such informational intervention, polls will be rigged and govt. sponsored candidates will be declared elected after intimidating voters and not allowing fair participation by them.

The present puppet Congress govt in Punjab was forced on the people of the state despite the fact that only 5% of the people participated in the election game enacted on Feb.19,1992 with half a million army and all black draconian laws like NSA and TADA in force and complete censorship on the press, 95% of the people abstained showing their complete distrust in govt of India. The Panthak Committee had made a similar request at that time too.

In the past 10 months people of Punjab have had their worst nightmare experience with the minority Congress govt., 2530 Sikh young boys are being killed on daily basis in staged encounters Punjab jails are swelling with Sikh young boys held without tnal and in thousands of interrogation centers Sikh men, women and children are being tortured, raped and humiliated as is documented by different international human rights organizations. This all is being done to force 20 million Sikhs into political subjugation before the tyrannical Indian regime.

The reports received by PC from various Punjab villages are suggestive of situation in the coming Panchayat elections. A report from village Panjwar in Disstt. Ammnitsar (Punjab) says that one police tout forced village voters at gunpoint to sign a petition to elect him unanimously as village council head. Reports from other districts in Punjab speak of tremendous pressure on voters by Police and govt. officials to choose only govt. sponsored candidates.

P.C. believes in solving all problems within the framework of international Jaws and covenants and under Geneva convention agreement so it requests motivational intervention in the coming Punjab village council elections so that people of Punjab may be able to use their franchise right without any fear and intimidation.

Panthak Committee which is an umbrella organization of all major Sikh groups believes that 20 million Sikhs of India are the most persecuted of all minorities in India so they have a legitimate political claim for a sovereign state Khalistan where they may also experience “the glow of freedom” like other free nations of the world. The statement is released by Dr. Amarit Singh, Spokesperson Panthak Committee Khalistan Affairs Center.
