LUDHIANA : Panthic committee has called upon all Akali groups and Sikh student federations to forge a united front in the forthcoming panchayat elections with the aim of strengthening the Sikh Struggle for Khalistan.
The committee’s statement was Signed by Dr.Sohan Singh, Bhai Daljit Singh, Bhai Satinderpal Singh and Bhai Shahbaz Singh and was circulated at Chandigarh recently.
The committee said that it was not directly participating in the elections but asked all candidates of Panthic bent of mind” to ensure that the current struggle got support. It said that the Panthic committee took the panchayat poll with Seriousness because _ the panchayats were the basic units of the Sikh religion. Those who wished to be members of panchayats should dedicate themselves to the cause of Khalistan. The Akali and federation groups should give up their narrow partisan politics, personal jealousies and rivalries to join hands on a common platform. Nothing should be done to create a situation of confrontation. Only joint candidates should contest these elections if no unanimity is possible.
The Panthic committee reminded the Akali groups and federation factions to keep in mind their resolution in favor of Khalistan passed by them al Anandpur Saheb early in 1992. Only those who remain committed to that resolution should get support in the forthcoming elections. The committee asked the Sikh sangats to ensure unanimity in the first instance.
The committee ridiculed the recent statements of Punjab chief minister Beant Singh and police chief K.P.S.Gill claiming an end to the Khalistan movement. No revolutionary movement was without its ups and downs. There could even be mistakes by the participants in the estimate of the struggles which have an immense significance.
But ups and downs in the movement should not lead to disappointment or weakening of morale. The panthic committee remains committed to this cause of religion. It is in a position to understand every move and manocuvre of the Brahman regime.
Meanwhile, all major Akali and Sikh student federation groups have announced their plan to join the electoral fray.
