STOCKTON, Nov. 17: The citizens of Stockton hosted a fund raising dinner for Congressman Norman D, Shumway here on Saturday at the New Auto Center; the occasion was also dedicated to the 200th celebration of the signing of the U.S, Constitution.

Speaking on the occasion Hon, ‘Shumway thanked the citizen for extending such warm support to him and referring tithe time when the Constitution was signed in 1787, he said, “Neither the Constitution itself nor the nation it protected was complete then. Wisely, its drafter anticipated and provided for future growth, fashioning a Government able to provide necessary stability as also accomplishing for a peaceful change. Most importantly, those founding fathers guaranteed the inalienable right of the People against the power of the government”.

Earlier Mrs., Shumway detailed the invisible role of women in providing the necessary incentive and inspiration to the leaders. She read out extracts from the letters of former U’S. President’s wives to their respective husbands and pointed out the common under currents.

The dinner was attended by more than 350 persons. There were nearly thirty Sikhs among them, both men and women, who were pretty conspicuous with their turbans and salvar-kameez res pectively.
