SITOCKTON, Ca: S. Jagiit Singh Mangat, Member of Governing Council of W.S.0. — International and President of the Sikh Cultural Society, New York, which is managing the affairs of Gurdwara Richmond, New York, appealed to the Sangat to remain united to fight the oppression and aggression of the Indian government against the Sikhs in India, Mr., Mangat was addressing the Sikh gathering at historic Sikh Temple Stockton at the 518th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, last Sunday.

Mr. Mangat announced that he and his colleagues were entrusted by the Panth with the task of defending Dr. Gurpartap Singh Birk and his other colleagues who: ‘were prosecuted under the charges ‘of conspiracy to kill Bhajan Lal, the then Chief Minister of Haryana, He declared that with the grace of God we have accomplished this task as the minimum punishment has been given to them and they will soon come out of jail {o rejoin their families.

Secondly, Mr. Mangat told his audience that they are pursuing the entrusted duty of saving two jewels, Ranjit Singh and Sukhminder Singh from the clutches of the butcher Government of Rajiv Gandhi, “I am sure that with the blessings of the Waheguru, these boys will also join you people very soon”, Mr. Mangat assured the Sangat. He also thanked the gathering for generously helping the defence committee which is pioneering the defence process.

Mr. Mangat also gave details of the previous expenditure incurred on the defence of Birk and others.

While expressing the sentiments of Ranjit and Sukhminder, Mr. Mangat told the audience that both were in high spirits in the jail and they have expressed their desire of closing ranks in the Panth.

Mr. Mangat expressed his happiness on the way the “World ‘Sikh News” is serving the community in a dedicated manner. He appealed to Sangat to contribute liberally for the defence fund and subscribe to the World Sikh News.

Mr. Mangat was presented with’ an enlarged and framed picture of Martyr Sarbjit Singh Johal by the Sikh Gurdwara Stockton in Appreciation of his dedication to the Sikh cause.
