They said the elite assault troops landed in Moolai Wasama, a heavily fortified stronghold of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) about six km (four miles) northwest of Jaffna
The officials said the rebels fought bitterly to defend their bunkers ‘but were overrun by the commandos. The officials would not say how many Indian troops were killed in the operation.
The Indians also captured a large amount of arms and ammunition, the official said.
The officials also said Indian troops seized control of two other villages once controlled by LTTE, Valali and Achchuveli, in the north of the Peninsula.
