CAIRO: A baby is born every 27 seconds in Egypt and the country’s population grows by one million every eight months. President Hosny Mubarak whose government. is well aware that this population explosion is a threat to Egypt’s progress, has repeatedly warned the people of the likely consequences. Two or three children per family are enough, the president tells his people at every possible opportunity.
