NEW DELHI: Another case of dirty tricks?

Has telephone access to BJP president Mr. L.K. Advani, who was the party’s candidate from New Delhi been snapped?

A foreign journalist got the telephone number of Mr. Advani from the BJP office on Friday to seek an interview with the BJP leader. All through the day he dialed the number 3782387, and every time a prerecorded message came on the line, “this number does not exist, Please recheck.”

Finally frustrated with Indian telephones and with what he though was the BJP’s inefficiency in giving him a wrong number, he landed up at Mr. Advani’s home. He complained to Advani about the care lessens of his office.

But that is the correct number,” the BJP leader replied. Since he has two telephones at his house, he went across to the other telephone and dialed the first number given to the journalist just to check. The same prerecorded message came on the line.

Will the government care to answer?
