UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations General Assembly called on all states to intensify their “practical efforts” towards ensuring international peace and security in all its aspects through cooperative means in accordance with the U.N. charter, PTI reports.

The resolution on enhancing international peace and security, cosponsored by the United States and USSR, was adopted without debate. However, Japan and Brazil expressed reservations about the language used in it.

President Joseph N. Garba said it had been proposed following consultations that there should be no debate in order to permit broadest possible support for the resolution.

The resolution urged the member states to consult and cooperate within the framework of the U.N., the security council and the general assembly and the subsidiary bodies to find “multifaceted approaches” to implement and strengthen the principles and system of peace, security and international cooperation laid down in the charter.
