LUDHIANA, Punjab, India: Ten more battalions of C. P.F. will be raised in the country in the next two years, stating this to the news men, the additional Director of the C.RPF. Said that seven battalions will be raised in 1988 and three in 1989, there were 83 battalions in the country at present, two battalions are engaged in operations in Sri Lanka, The additional Director said the CR.PF. Would have a group center at Pinjore and the land for the purpose has been acquired, Land was also acquired at Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala to establish the battalion headquarters of the CR.PAF. Replying to the questions he said that the training of the units was good but it required more sophisticated weapons like carbines etc. which were used by the freedom fighters. This matter has been taken up with the government.
The CRP, he claimed, had made a tremendous contribution in containing violence in Punjab along with the Punjab police. He said that there was complete coordination between the two forces. He said 32 officers and jawans of the force had been killed by the gunmen in Punjab during 198687; As many as 232 companies have been deployed in Punjab these days according to him. A large number of freedom fighters have been killed and allegedly twelve hundred fire arms have recovered from them.
