NEW DELHI, India: The Gurkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) warned today that if the Indian government did not intervene to help them establish a separate state for Gurkhas, the GNLF will intensify its agitation, the BBC reported.
GNLF leaders Subhash Jeeting told reporters that he has already warned New Delhi that it could not suppress the Gurkha movement by force.
‘A BBC correspondence reporting from Delhi said that the Gurkha issue was becoming a big headache for the government of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, The Indian leader has already said that an independent Gurkha state would not be tolerated and that violence and extremism would be crushed with all means available. Gandhi said the question of a separate Gurkha state within India ‘was a matter to be decided upon between the GNLF and the government of West Bengal.
