Rajiv Gandhi has called for general elections for next November 2224. There will be no state elections for Punjab, only parliamentary elections.
On October 7,1986 the Sikh leadership severed all relations with the Indian Constitution and declared independence from India, Therefore, the Sikh nation should not participate in any election under the Indian Constitution. The Sikh representatives to the original Indian constitutional convention, you will remember, did not sign the Constitution in protest.
In May of 1987, the Indian Government instituted Presidential Rule in the Punjab and dissolved the State Legislative Assembly. There is no reason why they couldn’t do this again at their whim. In any case, of 543 seats in the Parliament, only 13 are assigned to Punjab. Even if the Sikhs won all 13 seats, your voice will not be heard in Parliament.
There is, therefore, no reason for any Sikh to vote or to campaign or to run for election. On October 5, 1989 U.S. Congressman Ben Blaz of Guam issued a statement that proclaimed Khalistian as the only The Sikh nation knows very well that the Sikhs cannot survive as a religion and a culture unless they achieve a free and independent homeland.
The world will watch this election very closely. It is very important to let the world know that Sikhs don’t recognize the Indian Constitution and are not participating in this election. The Indian Government’s disinformation operation is doing its best to convince the world that only a few Sikhs want a free Khalistan.
They have sent their agents to Gurdwaraas abroad to propagate the idea of Hindu Sikh unity. They have infiltrated agents into the Sikh organizations worldwide. They are controlling Indian ethnic newspapers and media. Even some Sikh newspapers are Gussie led by the “Third Agency” intelligence wing of the Indian government, But even under these circumstances we have made substantial progress. The struggle to free Khalistan is well known all over the world. The genocide of 80,000 Sikhs under orders from New Delhi is by now well documented. In Chandigarh, Justice A. §. Bains and Gurtej Singh Brar reveled in a recent report that 7000 Sikh youth have been murdered in fake encounters over the last two years in Punjab and that 15,900 Sikhs languish in jails as political prisoners with no hope of bail or trial or legal counsel for at least three years.
Now it is up us to tell the world that the Sikhs have severed their relations with the Indian Constitution, that they want the occupying Indian troops removed from their homeland and that they want a free and independent nation, Khalistan. ; Sikhs are fighting for their basic, God given right to be free. They simply want freedom like all the people of the earth, to control their own destiny, preserve their religion, heritage and culture. They want control over the natural resources of their homeland, like the waterways and the soil, just like any other nation. And they are willing to fight for it.
Free Khalistan is the normal state of affairs. The chaos and the reign of terror in the Punjab today is what is unnatural and perverse. That turmoil is not the doing of the Sikhs, as the Indian government would have people believe.
Sikhs must demonstrate that they are serious about securing their freedom and their right to reject oppression by a tyrannical Indian government. Boycotting these elections is an important step in throwing off this tyranny.
Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh Council of Khalistan
