CHANDIGARE: Justice Ajit Singh Bains, retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and President of the Punjab Human Rights Organizations has given a call to gherao (cordon off peacefully) the Punjab Raj Bhawan here on September 30 to protest against state terrorism. The PHRO has documented hundreds of cases of police torture and murder.

Justice Bains’ address read at the UNHRO page 10.

Earlier, Prof Darsharn Singh had given a gherao call for September 8. This was put off following the transfer of SSP Gobind Ram. Justice Bains was critical of Prof Darshan Singh calling off the stir. The repression has not ended but has increased, he said.

Justice Bains reiterated that he was not aligned to any political party and was working only towards ending human rights abuses in Punjab. It may be recalled that his passport was seized on the eve of his going to Geneva to address the UN Human Rights Organization. Thus becoming a victim himself of denial of civil liberties to Sikhs in India.
