LOS ANGELES: Even while the Indian government faces a boycott by most of the Sikhs in America in the wake of the bloody attack by their army on the Golden Army in Amritsar and the continuing brutal repression in Punjab, they are still able to find some turbaned guests at their official functions.

The farewell dinner to former Indian Ambassador P.K. Kaul was hosted by Dr. Amarjit S. Marwah according to a report in a Los Angeles weekly published and edited by Mohinder Singh, at one time a personal assistant to the President of India, Giani Zail Singh.

Harbhajan Singh Yogi was the other main turbaned guest at the farewell dinner which a hundred people attended.

This is a clever ploy used by the Indian government to show all is well in India and that Sikhs support them. These acts may win a minuscule minority of Sikhs officially patronage and favor but have been viewed unfavorably by most.

Ambassador Kaul while saying he really enjoyed the three year stint criticized U.S. policy. He said the U.S spent $300 billion a year on defense and most of it to ensure that democracies are installed throughout the world while it gave only $25 million in aid to the largest democracy.
