Sir,

I am not a regular reader of World Sikh News, Recently I picked up the July 28, 1989 copy. The item, “Punjab Hindus adopting Sikh way of life,” caught my attention.

Personally I am aghast that you would print such garbage. It is very shocking that you send this to your Politicians and we in Canada, send it to our members of Parliament. The article gives the impression that Sikhism is nothing but a hair cult. All one has to do is grow his hair and he is a Sikh. Is this what you believe? Is there really “much similar between the Sikh and Hindu religion”? I thought Sikhs believed in one almighty God. Hindus have a god for every Occasion and worship whatever is convenient, be it a lingum or the perverted krishna who compromised the village maidens,

In future please be more careful, in the nature of what you print, don’t wish to hang my head in shame when’ someone asks, what is my connection to Sikhism?

(The news item did in no way imply that Sikhism was a hair cult or that there was any similarity between the Hindu and Sikh religions. What we printed was an objective report of what is happening in Punjab — Editor).
