NEW DELHI— Aug 2 A congress (I) member of Parliament, H. N. Nanje Gowda, has urged the Prime Minister to “reopen the investigation into the Indira Gandhi assassination case and make honest efforts to find out who got the Bofors commissions.”
In a five page letter to Rajiv Gandhi, the Lok Sabha member from Karntaka has said the twin issues should be reinvestigated “in order to regain a semblance of credibility” for the party.
Gowda said The reluctance to trace the real culprits in the Indira Gandhi assassination case is matched only the diligent cover-up of the real recipients in the Bofors deal”,
Gowda’s letter released to the Press said Gandhi’s assassination and the Bofors deal were the two specters haunting the Congress (I) and “on both these issues, our party and the Government have been adopting tactics which make our Opposition laugh, our party sad and our countrymen angry.”
Gowda said: “The single largest blot on our party and the Government in the last five years is the lack of direction and purpose in unearthing the conspiracy which led to Gandhi’s assassination and it is a shame that the Congress and the Government have to live down and it is a shame that the people of India will not forget.”
IT was Jawaharlal Nehru who defended on the floor of the Lok Sabha the independence of the Comptroller and Auditor General and today “shameful efforts were being made to belittle institution of the CAG. It could be the worst thing that could have happened in the centenary year of your Granfather”, added Gowda.
