From News Dispaches NEW DELHI: Anand Ram who headed the special investigating team (SIT) which probed the assassination of Indira Gandhi relinquished charge today.

The term of Anand Row who was given two months extension on March 31 expired today. He handed over charge to Mohan Katre CBI Director. The investigation into the “larger” conspiracy,” behind the assassination will now be conducted by the CBI.

Following disclosures made by Attindra Pal Singh a freedom fighter SIT was assigned the job of investigating the “larger conspiracy” behind the murder of Mrs. Gandhi involving Simranjit Singh Mann UAD President and former IPS officer, Atinder Pal Singh and two Bombay lecturers Prof Dalip Singh and Jagmohan Singh.

Anand Ram had served the Indian police for about 40 years. He took over charge of SIT in November 1984, and inducted experts for probing the conspiracy behind the murder of Mrs. Gandhi.
