NEW DELHI: The District and Sessions Judge Jaspal Singh has ordered the Tihar Jail authorities to shift two accused in the second charge sheet filed in the Indira Gandhi assassination case to a cell which does not face the grave of Magbool Butt or the gallows where Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh were executed.
The topmost Judge of the district courts passed this order last week after visiting the jail on a complaint by the two Bombay lecturers Dalip Singh and Jagmohan Singh Toni that their cells resembled “concentration camps” and their location caused them “acute mental torture and depression.””
Jaspal Singh in his four page fact finding report came to the conclusion that it was not possible to remove the “high security risk” under trial prisoners from jail No 3 the maximum security portion of the prison, But he observed that “the interests of justice” would be met if they were transferred to some other cell in the same jail.
Mr. Jaspal Singh also directed the jail authorities to allow the two prisoners to go for a morning walk and provide them four buckets of water daily.
