LUDHIANA: Several hundrea SGPC employees are faced with retrenchment under the garb of “purging the SGPC of the corrupt elements.” The SGPC has nearly 900 surplus employees who are being removed on one pretext or the other because of infighting among members. According to the sanctioned strength the number of employees should be 1980 as against the present strength of 2890. Ujjagar Singh Rangretta acting President of the SGPC says 150 employees have been retrenched on the recommendations of the seven man committee headed by Baldev Singh Sibia. These employees had committed irregularities and allegedly submitted fake certificates pertaining to their educational qualifications, They included three Assistant Managers of the gurdwaras who were removed on charges of corruption. Dyal Singh, Assistant Secretary of the SGPC has submitted his resignation and the Executive has yet to decide on it. Ranjit Singh Manager of the Harmander Sahib has resigned because of overage.

Another list of about 200 employees is ready and they are being given termination notices. They belong to the category of “relations” of SGPC members and senior employees.
