In a parrot like fashion the Indian Government and its agencies keep placing the blame for all their misdemeanors and misadventures on everyone else except themselves. Without offering a shred of evidence or reasoning India’s henchmen put out improbable if not impossible stories that are hard to believe and are a function of reflex reaction to adverse events of India’s own making.

Review for instance the stories that Pakistan is training and supporting elements hostile to India with a view to breaking up India; that CIA of USA is responsible for the assassination of Indira Gandhi; that China is sending AK 47s to Punjab; that Nepal is being encouraged by China to embarrass India along with its borders on trade and transit issues that the US Congress and the White House have been overly influenced by Khalistan proponents so that the US is pursuing policies that are in the interests of Khalistan (We would love that possibility though) that the Muslim agitation over Babri Masjid is fueled by Arab dollars etc. The list can go on.

As regards Punjab India has surpassed its own Gobbies lies that Sikhs are killing innocents people and are extracting protection money from various businesses and so on. And the latest lie is that Sikh freedom fighters planted a bomb at the Delhi railway station that killed nine innocent people. Indeed, hundreds of Indian owned TY and radio stations took up the false story and have been repeating it for over 48 hours at the time of writing this editorial.

The first question that arises is what is the basis of such instant Indian verdict that Sikhs are indeed involved with the planting of the bomb at the railway station? The news stories emanating from India suggest that the man who was seen to be placing a brief case (which probably carried the timed device) in the entrance hall wore “‘mustaches” and because 12 June is very close to 5 June the day the Indian Army assaulted the Golden Temple. This is the most absurb logic that one can find. The foreign press that underestimates the manipulative skills of the Indian Government usually take up such stories without independently verifying them.

There are dozens of groups in India for instance the Kashmire freedom fighters, the Tamil separatist, UP Muslims who are desperately seeking to prevent the demolition of their four hundred old Masjid by right wing Hindus the BODO freedom fighters etc. who have a grouse against the Indian Government so that they would go the extent of setting off an explosive device that would seek to break the impasse that the insensitive Indian leadership have placed on those groups.”

As has been predicted by several political leaders and analysts: Rajiv Gandhi is going to use the “Sikh issue as a winning card in the forthcoming elections due to be held before December 1989. The die has been rolled for baseless stories against the Sikhs have started to appear in the press with a noticeable regularity. This is not only most unfortunate but also self-destructive strategy that will make India pay a heavy price in the near future.

We advise the Indian government to put an end to such vilification of the Sikhs and face the issues raised by the Panthic Committee so that there can be peace in the region.
