PARIS Reuter: Libya reacting to a series of bomb attacks in the French capital denied any links with guerrilla violence and said it and other Arab countries were the victims of a smear campaign.

“Libya has condemned and energetically condemns acts of violence that hit innocent people and have no justification” the Libyan Peoples Bureau (Embassy) said in a statement.

Paris has been hit by four bombings since last Monday with 52 people suffering injuries today when a bomb ripped through police headquarters in central Paris.

“Malevolent attempts orchestrated from outside France aimed at damaging Franco Libyan relations in particular and Franco Arab relations in general and implicating Libya in such acts is part of an ill willed campaign devoid of any foundation” the statement said.

French police have not linked Libya with any of the recent attacks but Prime Minister Jazques Chirac threatened draconian retaliation against anyone found backing political violence in France.

The United States has alleged that Libya has been an active sponsor of guerrilla violence in Europe.
