TOKYO Japan: The United States and Japan have been restricting exports of sophisticated super computers to third countries and are now negotiating even stricter restrictions a mass circulation newspaper said today.

A secret agreement in force for two years restricts exports of super computers produced only in the United States and Japan for fear that they might be used for nuclear development or that their technology might be leaked to communist countries Asahi Shim bun said

The product is officially banned for exports for export to communist countries under the Paris based coordinating committee for export to communist area (COCOM).

Foreign ministry spokesman Yoshio Hatano told Reuter “I simply don’t know (of the reported agreement”.

Contracts for Japanese made super computers have so far been concluded for export only to West Germany and the United States the paper said.
