CHANDIGARH: Government of India has revealed that certain army units were still in the state of suspended animation because desertions in the wake of operation Blue Star in June, 1984, According to official sources, plan now is to reactivate such units. This reactivation is being done in accordance with the original class composition and will be completed by the end of May. Five of the Army Units under various commands witnessed desertion’
These units were placed in a state of suspended animation for six months since November 1985 and a bulk of their personnel were transferred to other units. The Chief of Army Staff General K,
‘Sunderji said upon taking over his post early this month that there « ‘were 15 battalion size units with 100% Sikh Soldiers and another 50 such units with 50% such soldiers, General Sunderji had anticipated the desertion to command at the local level and the ill trauma that the Sikhs had gone through.
