CHANDIGARGH:-Sromani Guriwan Parbandhak Committee has directed Akal Takht Chief, Jathedar Kirpal Singh, to call a Sarbat Khalsa meeting to counter the dismissal of important functionaries of Akal Takht, Harmandir Sahib and S.G.P.C by the Sarbat Khalsa Convention held on January 26, 1986 at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, He has also been directed to excommunicate from Panth all those responsible for this act.
The S.G.P.C, according to B.B.C, has decided upon this course of action after the precipitous action of Damdami Taksal and AISSF by which important functionaries like Jathedar Kirpal Singh of Akal Takht and Harmandir Sahib’s Head Granthi were replaced by persons belonging to the Damdami Taksal and S.G.P.C. was also dissolved. The convening of the Sarbat Khalsa convention is a direct challenge by the Akali Party to the growing power and popularity of Damdami Taksal and AISSF. The step according to political analysis will sharply divide the Sikhs and lead to complete polarization of the contending parties. It can also result in violence, in which Sikhs would be killing Sikhs.
