AMRITSAR: The Akali Dal (Mann) has categorically declared that the RajivLongowal accord would not be the basis of any solution to the Punjab problem acceptable to meeting of the working committee, district Presidents and office bearers held inside the Golden Temple complex and chaited by Vice President Tarlok Singh in the absence of Mann who is said to be indisposed.

Tarlok Singh clarified that his party had to pass the resolution on the RajivLongowal accord in the wake of an announcement by the Prime Minister that the unimplemented clauses of the accord should be implemented.

The meeting in another resolution condemned the deployment of Army in Punjab and said that just as the Army invasion of 1984 was the work of the Congress I this too was its work. This deployment ‘would prove to be the beginning of the last war. The party also deplored the arrest of Sant Charan Singh at Khadoor recently and asked for his immediate release.

While rejecting the accord the Dal meeting did not say anything on the ongoing construction of the SYL canal or the flow of free water to Haryana and Rajasthan through the Bhakra Mainline canal and the Indira Gandhi canal.
