Tri-State Sikh Cultural Society of Pittsburgh invited Granthies and presidents’ of Gurdwara Committees from all the Sikh institutions in the Northeast America to discuss the application of Sikh Rehat Maryada under North American conditions. Dr. Jasbir Singh Gill of TSSCSP requested representatives of all institutions to send their and presidents’ of Gurdwara Cquestions they have to face while conducting Gurdwara program and Sikh functions. Discussion was held in the Pittsburgh Gurdwara on Friday and Saturday, October 26-27, 1990. Very useful exchange of views took place and the discussion enlightened the participations on many issues. The first part of the Sikh Rehat Maryada up to GurmitRehani was discussed. The discussion involved the definition of Sikh, Nitnem, and Ardas, distribution of Parshad, Huknama, Sahejpath and Akhandpath.
The discussion was helped by Drs. Gurbakhash Singh and Paushaura Singh, Gyani Gurdeep Singh of New York because of sickness was unable to participate.
It was also felt that the next discussion be done in some other Gurdwara to involve the participation of the practicing Sikhs of the city. These discussions should be continued periodically, two to three times a year in rotation at different Gurdwaras.
Details of the questions and discussion were prepared for distribution to the attendees and more information can be obtained from the TriState Sikh Cultural Society, 4407 McKenzie Drive, Monroeville, PA 15146-1040.
