HAWKINS, TX: SIFE: Students In Free Enterprise successfully completed their Y.E.S. Seminar on October 11, 1990. SIFE members showed Introduction to SIFE; a video, to introduce their organization to the audience. Honorable W.C. Maynard, Mayor of the city of Hawkins, proclaimed October 713 as Minority and Small Business Development Week at Jarvis Christian College and the city of Hawkins. He also praised the effort of JCCSIFE members and their sponsor Pritpal Singh Chatha to educate and promote the Small and Minority Business.
SIFE team introduced their projects to the public and emphasized the importance of basic needs to start a new business. They explained the importance of market research for starting a new business. The ownership must decide what type of organization they wish to have, the product or service must be defined, size and location of the business and segmentation of market to be served, distribution and promotional methods need to be decided. SIFE team emphasized the importance of recordkeeping and exploration of the sources of money. Last of all the team members raised the question on the self of ownership. Is the owner ready and prepared to do business? Is his health permitting him and his family members to cooperate with him?
Dr. Charles A. Berry, President of Jarvis Christian College had all the praise for JCCSIFE and its sponsors. He recalled the time and place where SIFE made history winning plaques, first and second place monetary awards at International Expo at Saint Louis, MO. in 1985.
Dr. L.B. Holmes, chairperson, Division of Business Administration appreciated the SIFE members and their sponsors for the work and providing leadership to Jarvis and Hawkins community. She advised them, “keep on doing the good work.”
