CHANDIGARH: According to news emanating from reliable sources it is likely that S Simranjit Singh Mann may be held indefinitely under the National Security Act.
Several political and social organizations of Punjab have criticized the Union Government for arresting Akali Dal (M) chief Simranjit Singh Mann without any apparent provocation. Those who issued statements demanding Mann’s release include the Punjab Bachao Morcha, the Akali Dal (M) and Punjab Human Rights Organization.
A PHRO spokesman said that Mann had been arrested to counterbalance the arrest of LK. Advani to appease Hindus. It is evident that Mann had been made a scapegoat in the ongoing struggle within the Hindu fold. The plea of the Amritsar police that Mann along with his supporters entered the Darbar Saheb complex with their licensed weapons is too flimsy a ground to be the basis of the arrest of Mann.
