CHANDIGARH: The Janata Dal candidate, Ranjit Singh was declared elected to the Rajya Sabha from the legislative assembly in Haryana state. Polling for the seat was held Tuesday.

Ranjit Singh, a son of the former deputy premier Devi Lal who was sacked by Prime Minister Vishwanath  Pratap Singh, polled 48 votes against 35 secured by Ramesh Joshi, of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Curfew in Baroda AHMEDABAD: Police fired 10 rounds to disperse crowds indulging in stone throwing in Vadi and city police station areas in Ahmedabad.

Indefinite curfew was re-imposed in both the areas after Hindu Muslim riots. A state reserve police Jawan was seriously injured when he was stabbed in Vadi area police said.
