NEW DELHI: Fourteen naval personnel, including three officers, were reported missing when a Russian make Petya class warship of the Indian navy sank along with its armament including missiles, about 150 nautical miles off the Vishakhapatnam coast in southern India according to defence ministry here,
The ministry said the warship INS AND sank due to heavy flooding while taking part in a fleet exercise in rough seas in the Bay of Bengal.
118 naval personnel, the rest of the complement of the warship were rescued by other Giri class warships taking part in the exercise.
The ministry ruled out any sabotage in the mishap, but ordered an immediate board of inquiry into the incident which was described as the most serious case of such nature in the Indian navy.
