NEW DELHI: A Soviet Aeroflot airliner, hijacked Monday morning over Tashkent in USSR, landed at Karachi in Pakistan, official sources here said.
The aircraft, which was on a domestic flight in the Soviet Union, is carrying 29 passengers, the sources said.
Though some others said there were 49 or 47 passengers on the plane.
Soon after it took off from Tashkent, the plane was commandeered to fly towards Karachi, the sources said adding that the plane landed at Karachi around 1300 hrs. Local time.
Earlier, elaborate security arrangements were made at Delhi airport in case the aircraft made any attempt not land here.
Sources said the aircraft was allowed to land at Karachi as it was running short of fuel.
The Indian government had also given permission to the aircraft to make an emergency landing at Delhi.
