NEW DELHI: The Indian government is likely to import at least two million tons of wheat to replenish the buffer stock which is getting deployed.

The government imported 2 million tons of wheat last year from the United States and 6, 84 million tons of rice from Thailand.

The reason for the imports was stated as low procurement of food grains due to drought.

At present the government has in its stock two million tons of wheat and 5.5 million tons of rice. The buffer stock should ‘be 11 million to 12 million tons.
