CHANDIGARH: A high court judge refused to grant an extension of custody to the police fora Akali Dal leader.
The judge S.C. Bajaj refused to grant the extension of the remand under the draconian National Security Act of Kuldip Singh Wadala, a former legislator and vice president of United Akali Dal.
He was incarnated in the Indore jail in Madhya Pradesh. His detention was challenged by Gurpratap Singh, his son.
He was jailed on the allegations that his activities were prejudicial to the security of the state and the maintenance of the public order.
His council H.S. Matewala, pointed out that no case was registered against any of the seven charged. They said the order was malefide and was passed mechanically since the detaining officer did not consider that no case had been registered against Kuldip Singh Wadala. He said that material facts of the case used against the respondents were not supplied to him, as is required by the constitution.
