The Vaisakhi was celebrated on April 13 as the birthday of the Khalsa in a very special way at the Siri Guru Singh Sabha, Glen Rock.

A talent contest was held for the children of all ages for the first time in the Gurdwara. They were asked to write an essay on “Life as a Sikh in America”. Some children recited poems, some Gurbani, some brought there pencil drawings and others their paintings. Some recited Balam Sakhian. There were 25 participants from four years to eighteen years, Children of the older age groups also participated.

Nearly hundred people attended the morning As a Di War and kirtan from 6 a.m. onwards. This was followed by the talent competition and the guru ka langar. There after arrangements had been made in a nearby Van Sun Park in Paramus for a day of picnic and games. Everyone was in a celebrating, relaxed mood. At home some families had exchanged gifts and had also distributed sweets and gifts to the classmates of the children at their schools.

The response from the children for the talent competition was so overwhelming that every member of the Sadh Sangat was touched emotionally.

The president of the Gurdwara S. Kamikar Singh announced that “We are simply thrilled at how anxious the children are to show their talents. Next year we will devote a whole day for these children’s activities.”

Members of the Sikh Womens International Organization had also been very active participants and organizers of the function. The prize distribution will be held on April 23.
