WASHINGTON, D.C.: The third symposium organized by the Washington Sikh Center, in cooperation with Sri Hemkunt Foundation for Sikh children, was successfully organized at the Center level at The Washington Sikh Center, Gaithersburg MD Sikh Foundation of Virginia, Fairfax, VA and The Sikh Gurdwara of North Carolina, Raleigh NC in the months of Marchand April 1990. The participation was crossectional and enthusiastic in all age groups, 710, 1114, 1518, and 1923. All participants and winners received trophies and prizes.
The zonal competition for the winners from the above three centers was organized by The Washington Sikh Center on June 9, 1990, at the Washington Grove Elementary School, Gaithersburg, MD. Children in age groups 1014 and 1115 from these three centers participated. Their reports were based on (1) the life of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sikh History, Part IV, Hemkunt Press, and Introduction to Sikhism by Dr. Gobind Singh Mansukhani. The presentations were excellent; each competitor did a wonderful job in bringing out their views and was educational even for the grownups in the audience. In fact the competition was so tight that the difference between the first and second, and second and third were marginal in scores.
The three judges were Dr. Amarjit S. Jodh Singh and Professor Gurdeep Singh Bawa. Dr. Naunihal Singh Grewal gave away the prizes.
The winners of this competition were as follows:
Age group 1014 Rasna K. Satao (VA) 1st. Gobind S. Sethi (VA) 2nd. Amrita K. Singh (NC) 3rd.
Age group 1115 Summet K Caberwal (NC) Ist, Satinder K. Saluja (MD) 2nd, Navneet K. Matta (MD) 3rd.
Some of these winners will participate in the finals of the International Symposium 1990 to be held on July 8, 1990 in New York.
