In a joint letter to the prime minister the MPs said that “as prime minister as defence minister and as the person who has taken direct charge of Kashmir affairs after divesting George Fernandes of that job, we hold you directly responsible for this shameful episode.”
“It would be extremely reprehensible if you attempted in your typical style to pass on the responsibility for this to someone else in order to protect your own image,” they said,
The Indian army, the MPs said was an extremely disciplined force of which every Indian was justifiably proud. “We do not want to see its reputation tarnished in any way,” they said.
MJ Akbar, AICC (I) spokesman, said a copy of the letter had been sent to president R Venkataraman.
The signatories include: Vasant Sathe, PJ Kurien, MJ Akbar, Ghulam Nabi Azad, PR Kumarmanglam, Harish Rawat and Madhava Singh Solaniki.
