The deputy chief minister, DeviLal Thursday declared that his son and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala would contest from the Meham Assembly constituency.
Talking to reporters on his way back from Allahabad, Devi Lal said Chautala would contest from the assembly seat to “set at rest all speculations about Meham” despite his landslide victory from ‘Darba Kalan.
Elections in Meham from where Chautala had announced his candidature were countermanded twice the first time in February following allegations of large scale rigging and the second time in May after an independent candidate was found murdered, forcing the chief minister to resign.
Asked whether Chautala would again become the chief minister of Haryana, the deputy prime minister said, “We have no attraction for chief minister ship. We have always fought and still continue to fight on issues and principles.”
Devi Lal said there was no threat to the National Front government at New Delhi and said it would continue for the full term with Singh as the prime minister.
