Actively involved in professional, civic and political activities since entering this country, Dr. Singh is a member of the International Platform, Assn, Smithsonian Institution, Phi Delta Kappa, National Education Assn., Mississippi Assn of Educators, National Council of Teachers of English, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Assn of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Kappa Delta Phi, Delta State University Alumni Assn., University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Assn, International Reading Assn., and numerous other local and state level educational associations.
He is also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Royal Maid and Parent Teacher Associations, and a supporter of the Mississippi Maid, and Parent Teacher Associations and a supporter of the Mississippi Sheriff’s Boys and Girl Ranch.
Dr. Singh has written numerous educational articles on self-concept, moral judgment, academic achievement of elementary children and student motivation in class. He has also spoken as a guest lecturer at several civic and social organizations on the topics of education and citizenship. Dr. Singh was elected by the MS Democratic Party to serve as an elector of the Electoral College for the state of MS in the 1984 Presidential Election; He served as the president of the Moss Point Chapter of the MS Assn of Educators -National Education Assn,
Dr. Singh attended the annual 1990 convention of the MS Assn of Educators in Jackson, MS as a delegate. He was selected to attend the National Education Assn. Human and Civil Rights Minority Leadership Convention in April 1990, in Puerto Rico as a southeast representative. He is actively involved in many national and international Sikh conferences, and is a member of the Council of Khalistan and of the Sikh society of the south, headquarters in New Orleans.
He and his wife, Mrs. Mohinder Kaur Singh, have two children, Ravinder Singh (son) and Davinder Jit Kaur Singh (daughter).
Dr. Balwant Singh of Pascagoula, Mississippi, has recently been chosen for biographical inclusion in the 1989-90 edition of Who’s Who in American Education. It is the most comprehensive biographical reference to American educational leaders published by the National Reference Press in Owings MiIls, Maryland. Dr. Singh is considered a part of a core group of highly qualified individuals who are prominent based on their leadership roles, educational achievements, significant publishing and public speaking experience and membership in honor societies.
