On Water and on Land is the Lord Creator pervasive
‘Saith Nanak, in innumerable forms is manifested the Sole Supreme Being”
He has seated Man on the throne of Universe to protect and preserve this planet.
But, alas, man due to his greed, selfishness and shortsightedness is turning beautiful and bountiful air, land, and sky into gradual graveyards. Journey from Nature to Industrialization has cost us tremendously in terms of environment. Gases from factory chimneys and smoke from automobiles have polluted the atmosphere so much that we see smog day and night instead of sun and stars, our increased consumer demands have multiplied waste, denuded forests depriving us rapidly of natural resources. Medical and pesticide waste, radioactive litter, oil spills are defiling our pure water and killing innumerable species of plants and creatures in water.
Unfortunately, man has become a monster; trying to consume and kill everything today as if there is no tomorrow. With his insatiable hunger he has brought upon himself the wrath of Mother Nature. Furious storms and dreadful drought have hit several parts of the world, Depletion of ozone layers, greenhouse effect, acid rain, radioactive contamination are ringing death bells for this planet. The tragic fashion is which we are trying to unbalance physical, chemical and biological equilibrium of Earth has made it an Endangered Planet.
It is not only the environment pollution but mental pollution has also enormously contributed to the gravity of the problem. Man has fallen from grace. Losses in moral values and ethical standards absence of prayers and spiritual values, lacks of faith and under Standing have made human beings selfish, greedy, uncaring and uncompassionate. To keep burning the fire of greed, they are destroying the beautiful treasures of nature as well as also exploiting and torturing fellow beings physically, mentally and emotionally.
To deprive someone of “human rights” is a supreme example of mental pollution pervaded in large part of the globe and it needs to be cleansed thoroughly and immediately.
Guru Nanak the Founder of Sikhism, very aptly said: “Air is the Vital Force, Water the Progenitor
The Vast Earth the Mother of All Day and Night is nurses, fondling all creation in their lap.”
Nature is not only source of life, beauty and power, but it is also an inspiration of strength in formulation of our character. Man is composed of Five Elements.
According to
Sikh Scripture, Guru Granth Sahib, These five elements of nature teach us valuable lessons:
Earth teaches us: Patience, Love, and Humility
Air : Nobility, Liberty
Fire: Warmth, Courage
Sky: Equality, Broadmindedness
Water: Purity, Cleanliness
We have to imbibe these fine traits of Nature in our personality for fuller, happier, and nobler lives.
For the sake of posterity, those countless generations of unborn children to come let us save this Earth. Let us not misuse our privileges.
Please don’t let the song of birds die.
Don’t let the water babies perish.
Don’t let magnificent animals become extinct.
Above all, don’t let human beings die of starvation and manmade disasters,
