Sir, I am a second generation Jewish American and have never been to India. So why, are you wondering, is this person writing to World Sikh News?
When I read issues of the paper passed on to me by a Punjabi friend, I find myself agreeing with much of its politics and with Sikh religious thought. Many Americans are in the dark about what’s going on in Punjab, thanks to our media, which considers the whereabouts of Donald Trump more newsworthy than the violent oppression of thousands of People. But some of us are waking up to the horrifying violations of human rights and are spreading the word.
Although the fight for Khalistan is not of my experience or background, your struggle for freedom and dignity if my struggle. If you lose it, I lose it. Below is a statement familiar to many Jews, written by a Christian religious leader who was a victim of Hitler, Even though it was written over 40 years in a different political climate than today, its words still hit home:
First they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the communists and I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out. Sincerely,
- Spielberg New York, NY
