UNITED NATIONS: United Nations Secretary General Javier Perez De Cuellar has expressed the hope that situation in Kashmir would not lead to violence and use of force. During an hour long meeting with the special envoy of Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto De Cuellar said nothing should be done which might increase the tension in the area. Pakistani sources said that the envoy Iqbal Akhund pressed for a United Nations supervised plebiscite in Kashmir. He also alleged “repression” by India in Kashmir where Pakistani trained militants have been indulging in violent activities for the last few months. He also denied Pakistan’s involvement in Kashmir and said the “uprising” was indigenous. The sources said De Cuellar told Akhund that he was keeping himself abreast with the developments in Kashmir and hoped that nothing would be done which could increase tension in the area.
